Abstract: The ongoing goal of Working Group 17 is to provide operationally focused guidance based on lessons learnt in the adoption and ongoing use of LNG as a marine fuel. Working Group 17.2 was formed with a diverse group of members across the whole spectrum covering new market entrants who are taking ownership of a gas fuelled ship for the first time to experts with decades of experience. This Technical Guidance Notes again demonstrates what can be achieved when different individuals and organisations come together and collaborate with a single goal. I am extremely proud and feel privileged to have Chaired this working group in delivering this first of a kind guidance. The concept of tank temperate and pressure management and in particular boil off gas management is a like an iceberg. Whilst on the surface the idea is simple, the underlying understanding and issues are complex made even more so by the diverse nature of the vessels and operating modes reflected by the maritime fleet outside of LNG Carriers. This guidance note provides operational guidance primarily aimed at this organisation operating gas fuelled ships to better understand the challenges and potential solutions for operating gas fuelled vessels. It also provides useful information on how to mitigate some of these challenges starting at the design stage.
